Ibex safari on Pilatus Kulm
Experience the ibexes on Mount Pilatus up close. These daring climbers have been living on Lucerne's local mountain for over 60 years, and observing the colony is an impressive experience. On selected dates, accompanied by local, experienced guides, you will learn more about the fauna and flora on the Pilatus and in particular about the Pilatus ibex colony on the mountain. An overnight stay in the historic Hotel Pilatus-Kulm or Hotel Bellevue at 2,132 meters above sea level makes this unique mountain experience unforgettable. Look forward to exciting insights, impressive nature and unforgettable moments in the midst of the alpine mountain world.
King of the Alps
After the Alpine ibex was wiped out in Switzerland, reintroduction began in the early 20th century. In 1961, this was also approved for the Pilatus region. Initially, animals were captured on Piz Albris (GR) and released on the Mattalp. Around 40 years later, a further 10 ibex and ibex goats were released, this time from the canton of Valais. Around 100 animals now live in the ibex colony on the Pilatus.
