The 29th World Congress of the International Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy (IVR) took place at the University of Lucerne in July 2019. The event ran for a full week, and attracted over 1'300 attendees from across the globe. While the bulk of the programme was housed at the university, the sheer scale of the participant group meant that alternative locations were needed for certain plenary sessions and social happenings.
With the KKL and the Verkehrshaus we were able to find two ideal venues – in terms of both their impressive architecture and infrastructure, and the professionalism and attentiveness of the respective personnel. A similarly professional collaboration with the team at Bucher Travel also allowed us to offer the attendees an extensive social programme, including a variety of excursions to locations in and around Lucerne. Thanks to these arrangements, we were able to pull off a successful event that left participants with a positive impression of Lucerne’s standing as a site of academic excellence, as well as its remarkable natural beauty and rich cultural offerings.
None of this success would have been possible without the assistance of the Lucerne Convention Bureau, which proved an invaluable first point of contact and lasting source of advice and support. We thank the team there profusely for their efforts, and look forward to future opportunities for cooperation.

Lucerne was my favourite city in Switzerland. As soon as I arrived it struck me as a beautiful place that would make a great destination for an incentive. I enjoyed a reception on the terrace at the Art Deco Hotel Montana. It offered amazing views across the city and the lake, and it was a great hotel. Another highlight of my trip to the country was taking the cogwheel up Mount Pilatus, which I thought would make a really nice activity for an incentive group, largely because the views when you get to the top are stunning. We also visited the Transport Museum in Lucerne for dinner in the evening, and that was a really interesting option for hosting a gala dinner. It's a very unique experience - eating surrounded by old planes and cars.
