Built in central Lucerne in the 1970s, Sonnenberg was one of the world’s largest civilian bunkers. Had it ever been needed, two motorway tunnels would have been transformed into a bunker with enough room for 20,000 beds and hundreds of toilet cabins and washbasins. To complement the bunker, a seven-storey underground building surrounding the motorway tunnels was built featuring a command centre, a broadcasting facility, an emergency hospital and much more. The 1- or 2-hour tour provides a fascinating insight into the Cold War: SegwayTours or WalkingTours.
