The "Golden Round Trip" takes visitors to the most beautiful spots around Pilatus and to the summit by boat, cogwheel railway, aerial cableway and Panorama Gondolas. This experience of discovering the diversity of Lucerne's local mountain is accessible from May to October.
The steepest cogwheel railway in the world was commissioned in 1889 and still holds the world record today with a gradient of up to 48 percent. Meter by meter it scales in 30 minutes the way from Alpnachstad to Pilatus Kulm, passing alpine meadows and striking rock formations.
The aerial cableways are in operation all year round. In only 30 minutes, the Panorama Gondolas will have visitors front and center of the Pilatus adventure. From Kriens, they glide in the gondolas over Krienseregg to the Fräkmüntegg station. A cockpit-like cabin, windows extending down to the floor and plenty of space – the aerial cableway «Dragon Ride» gives a sensation of flying. In three and a half minutes it glides from Fräkmüntegg to the summit - with breathtaking views in all directions.
In addition to the train rides, there are countless possibilities to discover the Pilatus with its unique experiences. Most popular is the Capricorn Safari or an exciting Astronomy Evening in the best light conditions at 2'132 metres above sea level.
On Fräkmüntegg, Central Switzerland's largest rope park offers thrills. The tree top path, opened in 2019, or the Dragon Glider are suitable as relaxed alternatives. On the Dragon Glider, guests enjoy a ride on a pipe through the forest to the Drachenalp. A covered barbecue area with an integrated kiosk awaits them there with a magnificent view.
Sustainability is very close to Pilatus-Bahnen's heart. Particular emphasis is placed on the recycling process by separating waste. Where possible, Pilatus' own water, which is bottled in reusable glass bottles and can be carbonated if required, is served.
The disposable tableware is all biodegradable. In catering, local suppliers and products are taken into account when purchasing. Furthermore, travel by public transport is encouraged with combination offers at attractive conditions. The design of the new rack railway makes it possible to produce electricity through brake energy recovery. External electricity comes from ecological production.
